Flip the Script: Interview with Michelle Yung, RSW, MSW

My motto is that to develop a healthy childhood has the power to heal the wounds in the brain. And I truly believe in the importance of a happy childhood for every child.

That's why I'm committed in providing a supportive environment for the children, where they can explore their emotions, build resilience, and discover their inner-strengths, and promote their overall well-being.

I really love working with children and families, and I think this is the most beautiful thing in the world. And I'm also a mother of a three and a half year old child. And so I know that this is a beautiful moment.

I also find great fulfillment in supporting children who face different emotional challenges like anxiety and depression, as well as learning disabilities such as ASD and ADHD.

There are three corners during in my practice: child-centered approach, creating a supportive environment, and experiential learning. I am experienced in various modalities, such as child-centered play therapy, CBT, art facilitation, and ABA. These approaches help me to address a wide range of challenges that my clients face.

And I also offer skills training to parents so they can continue their practise at their homes. Attachment is critical. The interaction between children and their surrounding attachment shapes their development. Family is the first and most important attachment for children. They learn about love, care, achievement, and social norms, primarily from their parents.

My favourite therapeutic interventions are art facilitation and play-based activities. These can help me to enhance children's expression of their emotions. And through arts and play activities, they can externalise their feelings, and gain new perspectives, and also tap into their natural way of exploring the world. These approaches are more interesting and promoting social and emotional roles, resilience and creativity.
